House

The Studio

197 Cupseni, near Targu Lapus, Maramures, Romania 437130

The house is a 20 minute walk from the centre of Cupşeni village and main road. Located on top of the hill separating the village of Cupseni from the valley village of Costeni, it has panoramic views of Satra mountain and Costeni Village to the north and Hudin and Gutai mountains to the south.

The house is entered via a front patio with view of the barn, summer kitchen, orchard garden and well.

In-house accommodation is available in the one-storey 3/4 bedroom house. There are 2 twin bedrooms (one single bed and one double bed) and 1 double bedroom (one double bed) on the first floor with access to a shared bathroom. From the ground floor entrance hall a further bedroom/sitting room with a double sofa-bed is accessed. There is a ground floor shower room and WC.

The fitted kitchen and dining room give way to the wooden terrace with wonderful views of the back garden and neighbour's farm.

The large wooden terrace covered with traditional wooden shingles is used as a studio.

Guests are invited to explore the orchard garden and pick their own fruit when in season. We have apples, pears, plums, cherries and blueberries. The vegetable garden is hidden behind a traditional wattle fence. The orchard garden extends over the village road and guests are invited to explore the second garden and enjoy a panoramic view of Satra mountain and Costeni village. You are warmly invited to explore this second garden with its birches and mini forest. In summer guests can take a picnic to the second garden and enjoy a picnic with a view of Costeni village.

The hay barn is older than the house and was originally built to house farm animals and store hay during winter. It is now used as storage; it also houses the summer kitchen. At the end of the barn is the compost toilet. It is a traditional no water toilet which makes it very ecological. We warmly invite all guests to use the dry toilet instead of the WC to save water particularly in summer months.

The neighbours house is an example of the traditional Maramures houses that are slowly disappearing. Built of wood on a foundation of river stones it has 2 rooms and an enclosed entrance hall. It has small windows, a dirt floor and it is still lit by oil lamps.
